According to The Sun, Liverpool are locked in negotiations with Fiorentina as they look to complete a deal for the Peru international at the end of the season.
The Serie A club recently rejected an £8million bid from Bayern Munich for the versatile 28-year-old, who it is believed will be allowed to leave for £10m.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was believed to have made an enquiry for Vargas on the final day of the summer transfer window, while Real Madrid and Juventus have also shown interest.
Reports towards the back end of last year suggested that Vargas was still on Wenger's radar, while reports in Italy during the January transfer window claimed Premier League leaders Man Utd were monitoring the former Catania midfielder.
Zenit St Petersburg are also believed to be keen on Vargas, who came close to joining Real Madrid last summer. The Spanish giants were understood to have offered him a five-year contract worth €3.5million a year, but a fee with Fiorentina was never agreed
